North Africa During World War 2

 Afrika Corps

Formed on February 12, 1941.

Also called Deutsches Afrika Korps

Leader: Erwin Rommel

German Soldiers in Africa

Defeated the British in Libya and moved into Egypt where Rommel was defeated by Montgomery and the Afrika Corps where pushed out of Egypt in the Battle of El Alamein.

The Afrika Korps where sent to Northern Africa as a blocking defense of Tunisia so the Allies could not invade Sicily and Itlay.

Fought to defend Tunis, Tunisia and eventually lost to the Allies, where there next move was to Sicily.

May 12th, 1943 the Afrika Korps and Italians surrendered in North Africa giving the Allies one more step closer to defeating the Axis Powers.
